By the end of the session, participants will have
1. reflected on common findings at the routine neonatal examination, considering which need to be referred, which can be monitored over time, and which are variants of normal for which parents can be reassured, and
2. discussed common problems of infancy, including regurgitation and reflux, milk allergy, faltering growth, 'colicky' symptoms, plagiocephaly, and birth marks.
3. discussed common acute paediatrics that may be encountered in primary care, how to manage and when to refer
4. reviewed some frequent A&G requests
Dr Russell Peek
Russell trained in paediatrics in Scotland and the Southwest before appointment as a consultant in Gloucestershire in 2006. He has particular interests in neonatal medicine, infant feeding and nutrition. He was a member of the NICE committee that developed the gastro-oesophageal reflux in infants and children guideline (NG1) and chaired the NICE faltering growth guideline committee (NG75). He is an enthusiastic educator, currently the director of medical education for Gloucestershire Hospitals and a member of council of the Academy of Medical Educators.
