Academic background
Research in COPD, Tuberculosis and Bronchiectasis
Bio: I qualified from UCL in 1988 and following initial medical rotations in London and Gloucestershire studied a Diploma in Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London before working in Nepal in TB control for 5 years. I subsequently did ENT in Gloucester for 6 months before going back to medicine and doing higher specialist training in Birmingham in respiratory Medicine. In Birmingham I took two years out to do research into respiratory infections in Bronchiectasis and COPD. Included in this was short time in London with Valerie Lund at the National ENT Hospital looking at the relationship between nasal and pulmonary infection. Although an all-round respiratory physician (a dying breed) I have special interest in respiratory infection, bronchiectasis and COPD as well as Lung Cancer and interventional bronchoscopy. I manage the tuberculosis clinic (including non-pulmonary TB) and have an interest in integrated care.
